Are Movers always late?

T

his is perhaps the most heard of tale of Toronto movers. The question we constantly ask ourselves in dealing with this issue is how do we make sure we serve the first customer within the projected time frame so we can serve the next customer as originally planned?

The short answer

The answer is both simple and complex. Simple, because it should just be a matter of arriving on time for the first move and taking the shortest and fastest route afterwards to get to the next customer. It is complex, because not all that we anticipate always happens according to our plans, no matter how careful we are with our projections. This is especially true for the transportation industry which includes moving companies.

In fact, our internal data suggest that during the past 6 months, 80% of our crews' second move start times happened as originally estimated, while 10% happened with 15 minutes of the originally scheduled start time, 7% within 45 minutes of the projected start time and 3 % beyond 45 minutes.

The real dilemma

You may ask yourself: why do we even run late in the first place? That's the golden question. Answering it effectively means resolving the problem. However, the power of the unexpected can easily be underestimated when planning for something as challenging as moving. For example, many customers do not fully list all their items when they're scheduling a crew to move them.

Some context

This is usually caused by a lack of time; many customers can simply not provide all that information over the phone because they might be busy talking to the agent. Sometimes, they fear it will influence the price. We slways tell our customers that the danger of not revealing all the items being moved because one fears doing so will have an impact on the price could have the unwished effect on the price when the move is completed.

A competitive and fair price

Energy Crew Moving & Transportation does not charge for the quantity of items being moved. We only charge for the time required to move those items.
Therefore it is important to be as precise as possible when inquiring about our price estimate. Sometimes the distance between the loading dock and the elevator are unreported or simply not asked about by the agent.

The role of unexpected events

Movers, like customers' feedback aren't always the ones to blame. You will find that no matter how perfectly we planned our driving route, some unanticipated events such as constructions, road hazards, weather conditions, mechanical problems, elevator scheduling issues and many other may still influence our end result.

Then who is to bear responsibility? This is not an effective way of approaching the problem. That question places too much emphasis on the wrong element and misses the most important point which is the resolution of the problem.

The solution

In our next article, we will talk about the measures we have put in place to deal with the problem, maximize the value for our customers and adhere to our mission which is to meet the needs of human mobility through excellent and specialized transportation and logistical services.
